Crosstown LRT, Toronto
With a targeted completion date of 2018, the Crosstown LRT is part of a 25-year, $50-billion plan for coordinated, integrated transportation and transit in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area known as The Big Move.
Running across Eglinton Avenue from Mount Dennis (Weston Road) in the west to Kennedy Station in the east, the crosstown LRT is a 19-kilometre light rail transit line which will run underground for the 10 kilometres between Keele Street and Laird Drive.
Searles Surveying was engaged by Crosstown Transit Constructors in January 2013, shortly after the group was awarded the contract by Metrolinx to excavate a 6.2-kilometre stretch of tunnel along the LRT route. Searles Surveying's work included verifying existing project control, determining TBM alignment, establishing micronet coordinates for tunnel boring machine alignment, and establishing coordinate values for the launch shaft.
